The God Check
Sometimes my kids will come to me upset, saying “someone said this about me” and they begin to tell me something that hurt them. After consoling them, my first response is usually, “does God say that about you?” Their answer is always, “No, He doesn’t.” I hug them and tell them that if God doesn’t say that about them, then it is not true and as I begin to cover them with the truth of who God says they are, their tears begin to dry and are replaced with a sweet smile.
I have been thinking lately, “How often do I check something I believe about myself against God’s Truth?” We live in a world that is quick to criticize. The critical thoughts become internalized and as we age, we begin to battle those belittling thoughts daily. But when measured against God’s Truth, we will find that most of what we have come to believe about ourselves is untrue. It does not pass the “God check.” The love of God uplifts, it does not tear down. It builds you up and reminds you of your true worth. If it does not pass the “God check” then it’s better to throw it out. Lean into who God says you are. It is there that you will find your true worth and confidence.
You are His beloved creation, made in God’s own image (Gen 1:27). You are the apple of God’s eye (Psalm 17:8). You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). You are loved (Eph 2:4-5) And that’s just the beginning… @1000HourswithJesus
