The Humiliation of the Cross
Can you imagine what it must have been like for Jesus to watch His beloved creation, who He intricately formed in the womb, reach for the nail that would hold Him to the cross?
Can you imagine how piercing the cruel laugher must have sounded as His clothes, the last semblance of human dignity, were stripped from His tattered flesh and given as a souvenir?
Can you imagine the sun, the beautiful brilliance He spoke into existence, now blazing so fiercely upon His lacerated skin that it begins to swell and blister?
Can you imagine the distress He endured as He gazed down at His beloved mother, unable to help comfort her as she despaired over the execution of her firstborn.
Can you imagine the feeling of His lips, dry from dehydration, cracking painfully as He gasped His last words, “it is finished”?
Can you believe that His love for you held Him to the cross?
Can you believe that the greatest display of love came in the form of a gruesome crucifixion?
